Dropzone Commander Army Deals – Part the Last

It seems like both an age and but a fleeting moment since Hawk Wargames unveiled all the pricing for their range of 10mm sci-fi deliciousness. There has certainly been a lot of talk about it among us here. It’s looking like we’ll have all the races covered by the various denizens of the floating citadel which will be good for playing and also good for sharing our experiences here on the blog. I don’t want to be alarmist here but you might see painted models across the board appear on the site considering we’re all rather excited about the potential here.

So it is that we come to the last, but no means least of the offerings, the parasitic Scourge. I must say that I really like the background for these guys, they sound a bit like Venom from the Marvel universe. Anyway, let’s get on with breaking things down for you.

Today’s starter for ten, the Scourge Starter Army gives punters the following to raze the galaxy;

3x Marauder Medium Dropships

3x Hunter Main Grav-Tanks

3x Reaper AA Grav-Tanks

2x Invader APCs

6x Warriors stands

1x 40 card full colour Command Card deck

Hopefully my maths doesn’t fail like yesterday with the PHR post, I get a cost of £77.50. This roughly matches with the Shaltari starter army in bagging the budding conquistador 12% off. There’s some of the nicer models in the range in here as well, I like the tanks and the AA stuff is one of the best in the Scourge range in my opinion.

Next up is the Scourge Large Army, by now you’ll know that I’m a big fan of this level and up. Yes they are expensive but you do get a lot of goodies here. I’ll have to commend Dave for putting the tempting models in the larger boxes, it’s crafty but makes business sense to tempt those gamers that are interesting in shedding their wad.

1x Despoiler Heavy Dropship

2x Marauder Medium Dropships

2x Intruder Beta Light Dropships

6x Hunter Main Grav-Tanks

3x Reaper AA Grav-Tanks

4x Invader APCs

8x Minder Air Defence Craft

12x Warriors stands

1x Desolator

2x Corsair Fighters

1x 40 card full colour Command Card deck

This set is the first that includes the excellent Desolator that wowed a lot of people at Salute. There’s a change in the Dropships too, a reduction in the mediums with the addition of the Heavy and Lights. I’ve not seen this in any of the other sets at this level. They tend to include the Starter and work up. £169.50 bags you these beauties so the deal works out to a saving of 17% roughly equivalent to the saving on the PHR Large Army.

Finally there is the Scourge Mega Army which is, just like the others, a rather large amount of goodies to fawn over;

2x Despoiler Heavy Dropships

4x Marauder Medium Dropships

4x Intruder Beta Light Dropships

6x Hunter Main Grav-Tanks

6x Reaper AA Grav-Tanks

4x Invader APCs

4x Slayer Heavy Grav-Tanks

2x Tormentor heavy Grav-Tanks

8x Minder Air Defence Craft

8x Prowlers

12x Warriors stands

6x Razorworms stands

1x Desolator

4x Corsair Fighters

1x 40 card full colour Command Card deck

That’s a whopping £294.50 of world-ending, symbiotic, invasion forces. You start to see the introduction of the fancy looking heavy tanks at this range. While I still think the Shaltari Walkers are some of the best looking heavy weapons platforms going it’s nice to see tanks that look like they’re packing enough punch to send one crashing down on its ass. The set is a huge 25% off and, like the UCM, in my mind makes taking the Premium option the best of the deals for leaving cash in your pocket. Yes, I know people who have bought cars for less but getting all your hobby goodness up front is what a lot of us like to try to do where we can. It’ll also give you the flexibility to try things out on the table knowing that you can add and subtract stuff from game to game while learning without worrying about having to grab new units from retail.

There you go, all the armies broken down. If you want a nice quick summary of where all the sets fall I’ve got a nice little graphic for you. Please bear in mind that the % savings are rounded to make things easier so they are not exact but accurate enough to hopefully help people pick what they want. Obviously the larger the set the bigger the discount;
